REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 2026
CHANGES TO REMEMBRANCE
SUNDAY EVENTS 2026
Dear Residents
This is to let
you know in good time that there will be some changes to the Remembrance Sunday
events in Caldicot in November 2026. These changes have been made at the
request of the Caldicot Branch of the Royal British Legion and supported by
Caldicot Town Council.
At the request
of the Royal British Legion, we will be reverting to arrangements very similar
to those that were in place prior to the Covid lockdowns. The RBL has pointed
out that the arrangements in place in 2024 and 2025, which included a march
from the King George V Playing Fields to the Cross for a service and then on to
St Mary’s Church for another service, proved very strenuous for the more
elderly or infirm participants, including many veterans and their relatives.
The town
council has therefore agreed with the RBL proposal to assemble in Jubilee Way
and march straight to the church via Caldicot Cross. There will be no morning
service at the Cross. Members of the public are encouraged to line the route
and, if they wish, to take part in the non-denominational service at the
church. P.A speakers will be placed outside the church to cater for any
overflow. Details of timings will be published closer to the date.
The sunset
service will take place at 4:00pm at the Cross as normal and we hope that it
will be attended by as many people as possible.
Caldicot Town
Council is proud to support the Royal British Legion and will continue to work
closely with the Caldicot branch to ensure that the sacrifices made in past
conflicts are commemorated in the most appropriate way.
Yours
faithfully
Councillor I R
Shillabeer
The Mayor of
Caldicot
