Mayor's Awards 2019

Girl Guides nominated Ruby Atkins for the Mayor's Award because she is a fab little girl who takes part in all activities. She went with the District to PGL last year and took part in all the activities including zip wire and giant swing. Ruby is pictured here receiving the Cup from Mayor, Cllr Oliver Edwards.

Cadet Flight Sergeant (CFS) Rosie Huff, receiving the Cup and a cheque from the Mayor, Cllr Oliver Edwards. She was commended as recipient of the award for her selfless commitment to the Air Training Corps and other local voluntary groups. In addition, she has displayed maturity and compassion for her fellow cadets and has attained the rank of CFS earlier than one might expect, which should be taken as a reflection of the high esteem bestowed upon her by the Cadets and Staff of 2012 Squadron.

Corporal Edward Ashwell-Lewis was selected by Army Cadets as recipient of the Mayor's Award 2019. He has been a stalwart at detachment, setting a great example to the younger cadets. He also involves himself in collecting and assisting for Caldicot Branch of the Royal British Legion and has recently represented Gwent and Powys Army Cadet Force on a trip to Cyprus. Corporal Ashwell-Lewis is pictured receiving the Cup and a cheque from the Mayor, Cllr Oliver Edwards.

Steve Rogers receiving the Cup and a cheque from the Mayor, Cllr Oliver Edwards. Steve has dedicated 35 years to Caldicot Scouting and is now Scout Leader for a thriving group of 40 young people. For the last 15 years he has taken Scouts camping every month. He has arranged international camps, local camps and is well respected in the scouting world. This year he was recognised by the Scouting organisation and was presented with the Silver Acorn award for specially distinguished service to scouting and was invited to Windsor Castle for a special St George's Day Service, hosted by HRH The Duke of Kent.

Basil Packer was posthumously awarded the Mayor's Cup 2019. A family member is pictured receiving the Cup from the Mayor, Cllr Oliver Edwards, on his behalf. Mr  Packer was a stalwart of Caldicot Town AFC for many years. He developed youth sides in the club with a lot of success and the club was in a far better position when he moved up to the Senior Committee, where he became Membership Officer and was very good at it. He was also the 'Voice of Caldicot' on the tannoy system at first team home matches and East Gwent Finals
